What a bad day

This just sucks, i have so much bad luck with dsm's. last saturday my friends bother backed into my car and messed up my hood. It wasn't really bad, it didnt look too bad with the hood on there still. Well monday comes and this time my friend backs up into my and knocks the shit out of it, accordians my hood and has my a/c right up on my radiator and the other side that was fine got bent in too. That fuckers broke so i dont expect any money from him, in fact today i told him give me the system thats still in the car i bought from him and we'll call it even. Okay so i go to the junk yard to get a hood, pick one up for 80 bucks thats RED! and matches my car. I put it on in the parking lot and as i excepted the front is bent in about 1 inch too much for it to latch. The hood even protruded past the lights. No biggie i planned on fixing the front end tomorrow anyway. So i grap a rop and tie the hood closed. So i take the long way home, Driving kinda stoked that i have a hood and once again my car is a solid color. Then out of now where BAM, i cant see shit. The hood shatters my windshield and my roof is practically touching my head. I pull over get out and my heart just drops. Cuz what i see is just damn.... I'm mad/sad/furious/angry/crushed all at once. So i grab my ratchet and take the hood off and just throw it there on the side of the rode and drive home extremely aggressively. The whole time thinking what now, the car is pretty much totaled. damn im going to have to drop this engine in the black one i have. ASAP. So i get home look at it some more go inside and just lay down. And just layed there for like 45 minutes, thinking, trying not to cry(i love my car, oh and this chic i'm seeing was with me so i didnt want to start balling in front of her) The hole time i was thinking over in my head everything what happend. Why shit like this always happens with it. How i have really bad luck with dsm's. That my car pretty much is totaled, the front end, the back end, and now this. How i have a cherry 94 just right there too. But then i love my car, i couldnt get rid of it, no matter how fucked it is. But how do i fix it? Im going to have to pay someone to fix it if i really want it. Just tons of shit and alot of emotions. So then my chic said she had to go take her friend somewhere, shed be back later. So i walk her outside and say bye. I turn and go walk over to my car. Just looking it over for a good while. Then i told myself, Nah im not letting you go yet. Ran inside grabbed my wallet and some bills, jumped in my car and took off back to the junkyard. Just got back, got ANOTHER hood(green, and i made sure to tie the bitch down extra good) and a windshield all for a cnote. So tomorrow im going to pick up the glass first thing in the morning and then replace the windsheild. I hope i dont have to fix anything where the windshield goes Then i'll go ahead and fix the front end up. If i have enough time i get started on fixing the roof. I'll post pics of the damage right now

Forum: Off Topic

Door Interior Light Switch

Alright, for all you 1GA owners out there, there's a difference between the 1GA and 1GB door interior light switch, you know, on the 1GBs it's located at the bottom right-hand part of the door when looking at it from the outside. It's completely removable with a rubber grommet covering it and a screw holding it down.
Now the question is, for the 1GA owners, where the hell is ours? I was a bit confused when I looked and didn't see it. Apparently, there's one more thing that's different from 1GA to 1GB. In any case, I'm under the assumption that it's located somewhere within the door paneling itself hooked up to the door handle mechanism.
This is more of a curiosity as to where the hell it is, and since I don't have AllData in front of me, I can't find it right now.
Quite a long winded post for something so simple huh? But that's what I'm good at!

Forum: Interior

Valve removal help

Okay well im trying to take the valves out of the head and it just aint happening. Im using just a normal valve spring compressor, the one that clamps to the springs and then pushes the retainer down to compress the springs. So my problem is my valve locks are stuck to my retainers, so when i compress the springs instead of being able to move the valve up and down by itself the whole thing moves up and down.I tried tapping them with a hammer like the chiltons says but no luck either. Any tips?

Forum: Engine & Transmission

apexi Safc Neo
"The AFC NEO is unique in the sense that it has a built in MAF/MAP transfer function, which is necessary when the tuner swaps MAF/MAP sensors from one vehicle application to another. By setting the sensor IN and OUT to the appropriate sensor numbers, the AFC NEO can act as a translator/emulator unit, eliminating the need for costly sensor or ECU reprogramming."

So does that mean i could buy one of those, and then use a 2g maf and it will work right without a translator

Forum: Audio & Electronics

Mission Impossible: start the cold DSM

Ok i bought a 92 white Eclipse 4g37 to use as a dd here in Fairbanks, AK. The only thing is the car takes about 10-15 min of cranking for it to start. When is does start, it will run for about 3 secs and die.A couple more cranks and it starts and runs, but if you give it any gas it boggs and dies. After it is warmed up the car drives and runs perfect. It will fire up first try as long as it hasn't been sitting for awhile. I thought maybe it was just the cold doing this so i left it inside a heated shop overnight and it is a LOT easier to start but it still dies the first time and take 5-10 cranks to fire up in a 65 degree shop. The cel is on, pulled codes 13,15,21, and 25. I replace the coolant sensor and the entire MAF, and no difference. The cel lights never go off even if i reset the ecu by unplugging, they are on as soon as the car turns on..? Now i read on someother DSM site that a guy had the same exact codes and replaced the ecu and everything was ok, but i don't wanna buy a $300+ part and it still be f**ked up. I there a way to test the ecu? I pulled it apart and found nothing outta place with it no leaking caps, nothing. If anybody has some insight or has had this problem before any help would be greatly appericiated. OH is it possible the only thing i didn't replace the Idle speed control motor position sensor cause this super hard starting issue? Thanks.
Forum: Engine & Transmission

Allow me to introduce myself...

Hey guys, my name is Aaron, and I have a 92 Plymouth Laser 1.8L. Whew, feels good to get that off my chest! I live about 20 miles southeast of Nashville, TN. Im a 21 year old college student majoring in Aerospace Technology (fun to say) and have a minor in Engineering and Mathematics.

I got my Laser in September 2006. I got it for $350 when it had 118k miles on it because it needed a clutch replacement. I love this car. Every time I hit the gas I just get thrown back into my seat ok, not really, but its still fun to drive. Its also one of the most fun cars to work on/tinker with that Ive ever had to deal with. I cant think of any major problems that Ive had with this car, or rather, cant think of any catastrophic problems. It is my daily driver and I also deliver pizzas in it (yeah, Im the pizza guy). As such, I put a lot of city miles (~25k/year) on it so I go through tires and brakes pretty quick. The car isnt much to look at. Its white and some of the paint is coming off, but Im slowly working on fixing that (aesthetics is never a priority for me) and the previous owner put some kind of ribbon-type graphics on the side that look absolutely terrible, but I dont have to see it while Im driving, so its hard for me to really care.

I used to never really do anything to the car other than just the usual maintenance until I started taking classes that let me play around with the engines on some airplanes. They operate on the same concepts, but just do things more awesome, ie, ignition, cooling, intake, etc. So I decided to take some of the same general concepts of an aircraft engine and apply them to my car. Since I didnt know anyone or anything that had to do with modding cars, I was just flying by the seat of my pants. After doing a dozen or so small projects to it (all cheap ones) I stumbled across this site and noticed that basically all the things I did were things that you guys talk about here! And I thought I was the only one crazy enough to tear into a 1.8, good to know Im not alone.

Anyway, thats me, and thats my car.

Forum: Introductions
