since theres so much bs going around up in the air and no one will give a straight answere I thought I might give one..

The 2.0L Cam Gear WILL work with the 4G37.

Why: Even Before Machinging the 2.0L Cam gear is already much lighter then the 1.8L Cam gear. This will help you gain power by lightening the load the engine has to rotate thus, increasing power.

What to Do (if not Milled down):
Note: I recommend having it milled down to the same width as the 1.8L cam gear by a Professional Machine shop.

*1: first thing I would do is remove the 2 Cam Gear covers, they will only get in the way of the 2.0L cam and if not removed will require modifying.

*2: there is a Clearence Issue, you need to Grind down part of the motor mount at least 1\8 inch. Do this using a Dremel Tool, or a Metal File. (see attached Diagram)

*3: Take your 1.8L cam gear, and your 2.0L Cam ger and set them next to eachother make sure that the place ment holes line up on the cam gears, then check the timing marks on each cam gear and make sure they are the same.

*4: Install the Cam gear, and Tourqe it, (tourqe specs can be found in your repair manual. If you dont have one, YOU NEED TO GET ONE! (Recommended Cam Shaft Seal Replacement)

*5: Install Cam Shaft w\ Cam gear onto cylinder head.

*6: Timing is a PITA, so be prepared. It is much harder to slip the timing belt onto the 2.0L Cam gear then the 1.8L.

*7: Your done.  if you have any questions PM Me. I still highly recommend having the cam gear machined so you dont go through all of this trouble, it should cost no more then 20-30$

I answered that question a million times on here and on the tuners site. You'll need about 6 washers to sandwhich between the two cam gear covers. Oh and its much easty to zip tie the belt to the cam gear and then do the oil pump then crank sprocket.

****MAKE SURE YOU MARK OFF THE BACK CAM GEAR COVER TIMING MARK**** if you take it off.

or you can just use common sense and know where the timing mark on the cam gear relative to the valve cover for proper timing, and all those washers would add weight, its easier, and obviously more effective just to take those cam gear covers off.

Mischif, no offense but, me and ben all time question your automotive + Engineering skills, your really not the person I'd want to be taking advice from.

I found that it was easier just to unbolt the cam gear, to let the slack needed in the belt, and then time it, then bolt it back on when its all timed again.

Wow. But then your using my method to do the swap. Im the one that told everyone you have to sand down the motor mount for the gear to clear properly. Oh and that mark on the valve cover isnt an accurate mark to use(especially if the valve cover has ever been removed). You may be able to slide by using it but it wont guarantee its dead on time. You two can question my skills all you want, but...at least i have a RUNNING dsm, and have managed to keep it running reliably for almost 3 years. My dsm has barely missed a day since i've gotten it.

actually i recall being told to sand the bolts down for the cam gear guard. which i ended up removing becuase its so unnessesary. and i do recall a week where ben told me how you couldnt get your dsm timed right. this was all week too.

and there is no timing mark on my valve cover, and i dont need one. if the cam is at its proper timing spot then the lifters will be loose allowing play inbetween lobes so you can spinn it slightly back and forth by hand.

anyways timing is no longer my problem.

I know what the problem is, but im getting rid of the car for a new car this week. letting some one else deal with it. becuase ive put way too much money into just repairs on my DSM.

Oh yea WE all here know how unimportant the cam gear covers are, they dont do shit to help protect the timing belt so yea who needs it. I couldnt get my dsm timed right cuz i was going off a bad timing mark. But at least i did it 20 + plus times and aint being a little BITCH and giving up on my car just cuz im having problems with it. Go back to your little toy hondas, and leave the dsm's to the real men who are up to the challenge. No one likes your little retarded ass on either of the sites anyway. All you've brought to this site is a bunch of rice and bs. You should leave the site and go be an arogant prick somewhere else. If it was up to me i would of banned your ass when you started talking shit to 94eclipse.

my dsm didnt run because of a faulty head gasket if i hadnt gone for the complete head rebuild i woulda still had a running car to top it off u should remember how shitty my engine looked when i got it so god knows how much damage was done before i even got it

that being said how about u2 stop having that little piss ant fight off and realize that both of you have quorkes that are pretty idiotic just like i do and anyone else does in the world

and THAT being said i say get over it i said my 2 cents and thats all its worth lol
